Search Engine Optimization

What is SEO:

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, which is the practice of increasing the quantity and quality of traffic to your website through organic search engine results. Many people choose to focus on one aspect or the other when it comes to SEO, but the entire process should be handled with care and under the guidance of a competent professional who will offer advice based on your requirements.

Identifying keywords is the first step of SEO. It is the most important step because without having keyword’s in your website you will not be able to get any organic traffic. Once you have chosen the keywords you want to use, you should start from the middle and work your way to the top.

Search engine optimizers work from the bottom up and use software and processes to find, monitor and manipulate keywords for your website. It’s a process that can take time, but is worth it in the end. There are a lot of people who make money from SEO, but they usually have no clue as to the intricacies of the process, nor do they understand that quality can be more important than quantity.

To increase your site’s traffic, be sure to add new content regularly. Updating your page means that search engines will crawl it more often and that your site will receive a higher page ranking. New content also means new keywords, which will give users more ways to discover your site.

Alternative attribute:

Use the alternative attribute feature of an HTML page to add extra keywords. This function is supposed to describe the content of the page in an alternative way. You can use it to include related keywords: make sure you stay on topic and use popular keywords. Do not abuse of this function.

Keyword-rich descriptions:

Include keyword-rich descriptions of your images in the ALT text of your photos as part of your SEO strategy. People will often search for keywords plus the word picture or image. Take advantage of that to increase the traffic to your site. Your photos should be your main focus when it comes to SEO.

About Flash Files:

Using flash files is not a good idea for search engine optimization. Be aware of using flash as it can be very slow to load, and users will get frustrated. In addition, not all search engines can read flash files. If you must use flash, do so only when needed.

Unique Title Tags:

Make sure that each page on your site has a keyword focused, unique Title tag. Because your business name matters, have it there but at the end unless it is a keyword. This is because the title is the first item searchers will find when looking at search engine results. Also, when indexing, search engine spiders do give title tags some importance.

Find free tools to help you submit:

Several websites offer automated submission tools, that help you submit to up to hundreds of article directory sites in a short amount of time. Search very hard to find the free tools that do this. Most sites charge a fee for this task, but if you are lucky you will find those that do not.

Learn how to promote using social media:

Just about everyone has a Twitter or Facebook account these days, so look for your niche there and start building relationships. Post tips and information that your customers will find helpful and subscribe to accounts that show you offering new tips. You can also use social media to give your customers tips and instructions on tasks they may have.

Post regularly on your site:

Getting your website to the top of a search page can be aided by posting regularly on your site. If you consistently contribute useful information to the online community, then search engines will note this and promote your site for it’s unique and meaningful content. In addition, you will likely have more visitors to your site to read the fresh content that you post, and this will help promote you in search results as well.

The W3C says, “Cool URLs don’t change.” Avoid like the plague, changing the page names on your site or you’ll lose their page rank along with it. If you do have to change the page name, set up a 301 redirect to point to the new location. But really, just don’t do it!

It’s common for search engine spiders to look for new content, so when you’re regularly adding new posts through a blog, you’re giving the spiders a reason to visit your site. Well-written articles will often be shared. After an article is shared, it starts to bring in higher levels of traffic.

Keyword quantity matters:

Keywords are important to search engine optimization, but watch out how many you put. If you put an insane amount of keywords on your site, it will get labeled as spam. Search engine spiders are programmed to ignore sites that are guilty of placing their keywords too frequently on their site. Use good judgment in your keyword use.

Keep your site updated with new content on a regular basis. Sites that are consistently being updated are ranked higher by the search engines than sites that are static and unchanging. Adding new content also benefits you by providing more information for your readers and will keep people coming back.

When you are deciding what phrases to use throughout your site, use this quick Google test to see if your page has a chance of being at “top result.”

a) Search each of your potential key-phrases (in quotation marks) individually.

b) Choose the key-phrase that retrieves the least amount of results. This way, you will have less competition within your search result pool.

c) Leave comments on other peoples websites on a regular basis.

d) Take your time and find the articles that have a high PageRank page, and leave comments on these.

This will help you improve the PageRank score, and may have other people coming to look at your site more often as well.

Explain with videos:

If you have a product that is quite difficult to use, you should create a video that will explain how to use the product. You should keep your video short, preferably no longer than ten minutes. People want to see how something works, and they want to learn by doing. If you don’t explain how to use a product, how can you expect them to pay for it?
